"Most traffic issues occur because of non-line-of-sight scenarios," the government panel said in its 58-page draft, which is being reported for the first time by Reuters. "Most sensors do not work well in these scenarios and V2X fills the gap," it added, referring to the connected car technology commonly known as vehicle-to-everything (V2X). In Europe, the Euro NCAP rules recognise vehicle connectivity as a key milestone in crash avoidance and car ratings, the report added, while China and the United States are among the nations evaluating similar rules to improve safety. "With limitation for growth infrastructure there is a strong need to depend on technology to address challenges," the panel said in its report. The United States estimates introducing V2X connected vehicle technology could prevent at least 600,000 crashes a year.

That's because the vehicle platform redesigns need to come through semiconductor innovations in processing and power-management technologies, analyst Joshua Buchalter wrote in a report on Monday. "We believe these powerful secular content themes are underappreciated amidst appropriate cyclical concerns and pushback on EV attach rate projections," he added. In fact, companies indexed to these trends can outgrow the broader market and should be on investors' radar today, Buchalter said. TD Cowen's proprietary model forecasts the total automotive semis market growing at a 9% compound annual growth rate from 2023 to 2030 — doubling to about $121 billion. The company has already amassed a $30 billion auto revenue pipeline, spread across the digital cockpit, connectivity and ADAS, he pointed out.

Autotalks makes dedicated chips used in the vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications technology for manned and driverless vehicles to improve road safety. The company had credited the jump to its Snapdragon Digital Chassis product used by car makers and their suppliers. The Snapdragon Digital Chassis can provide assisted and autonomous driving technology, as well as in-car infotainment and cloud connectivity. Qualcomm on Monday said it would incorporate Autotalks' solutions into Snapdragon Digital Chassis product portfolio, but did not elaborate on the financials of the deal. The acquisition will be made through its unit Qualcomm Technologies, Qualcomm added.
You might be able to get out of the way of a testosterone-fueled human driver in an SUV, but the self-driving cars will never see him coming. As more self-driving cars enter the market, speed through Hajbabaie's intersections goes up and fuel consumption goes down. The same will be true of proposals like white traffic lights for self-driving cars. If self-driving cars ever move beyond shared services like taxis and deliveries, the first vehicles are going to be owned by wealthy people. The world of tomorrowFor the moment, cities are in no danger of being overrun by self-driving cars.
WASHINGTON, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Two U.S. senators on Monday urged the Federal Communications Commission to move quickly to grant some automakers and universities the ability to use some spectrum to deploy connected vehicle technology aimed at preventing crashes. Senators Gary Peters and Cynthia Lummis urged the FCC to approve "waiver requests to enable deployment of Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) technology in the 5.9GHz spectrum band. C-V2X technology is poised to save lives, (and) will pave the way for the future of automobile and transportation infrastructure." The FCC said in November 2020 it intended to offer waivers. It has received 18 waiver requests to date and none have yet been granted, the senators said.
Nissan and Hitachi look to charge elevators with EV batteries

[1/2] 2023 Nissan Pathfinder is unveiled at the 2022 New York International Auto Show, in Manhattan, New York City, U.S., April 13, 2022. In what appears to be an early attempt in earthquake-prone Japan to make wider use of EV batteries, Nissan and Hitachi Building Systems Co Ltd are focused on keeping elevators running when the power supply is disrupted. The V2X system uses the CHAdeMO charging standard supported by Nissan, an Hitachi Building Systems executive said. That allows it to also draw power from larger Nissan EVs, such as the Ariya and Leaf models. Tatsunori Takahashi, a director in the domestic business management division of Hitachi Building Systems, said he hopes the firm will start providing the system to apartment buildings from the financial year starting in April.
Electric vehicles in the coming years will be capable of powering homes and the grid. Backup power from EVs can help during storms and support electric grids strained by extreme weather. A new business unit, GM Energy, has a line of electric-vehicle chargers that can also feed power back to homes and the electric grid. "There's a value stack in EV batteries: supporting the grid, serving as backup power for your home, and also reducing greenhouse-gas emissions." The Ford F-150 Lightning also has bidirectional charging, which proved useful after Hurricane Ian pummeled southwest Florida's power grid.
The new business unit, called GM Energy, will consist of Ultium Home, Ultium Commercial and Ultium Charge 360 divisions. Ultium Home and Ultium Commercial will, as their names imply, supply energy storage for homes and businesses, respectively. GM Energy will also be involved with hydrogen fuel cells and solar energy products, GM said in its announcement. GM Energy will work with California’s Pacific Gas and Electric on a pilot program to test the concept using GM electric vehicles starting in 2023, GM said in the announcement. The new subsidiary is also working with solar energy provider SunPower, which will install solar panels on customers’ homes, GM said.
